Fathers’ rights campaigners planned to kidnap British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s youngest son for a publicity stunt, according to reports in the British media.
Citing an unnamed security source, The Sun newspaper on Wednesday said people on the fringe of the Fathers 4 Justice (F4J) group aimed to snatch 5-year-old Leo Blair and hold him for a short period.

I’d laugh if it wasn’t such a serious allegation. I’m all for most father’s rights to be part of their child’s life, but this Fathers 4 Justice organization has never sat well with me. Putting aside this recent newstory, most of their antics have been relatively harmless:
Members of F4J have previously scaled high-profile buildings, including Buckingham Palace, dressed as superheroes, and campaigners threw purple powder at the prime minister as he was speaking in the House of Commons.
But I just have to wonder if the whole campaign isn’t doing more harm than good. I mean, c’mon…would YOU want this kind of attention-whoring behavior around your kids? Child custody and visitation should be an exercise in compromise and common sense…not drama. I have to honestly say that, if The Ex at any time felt unfairly treated and decided to go scale large buildings dressed as a superhero in protest, I’d seriously reconsider the influence I’d allow him in the kids’ lives.
I could SO get behind a fathers’ rights group that opened the lines of communication and influenced well thought out discussion as a way to change things. Leave the circus antics under the Big Top where they belong.
