He’s Right

I can’t argue with this:

BURBANK, California (AP) — Oscar winner George Clooney shrugged off suggestions Monday that he might run for political office — but he sure sounded like a politician doing it.

The actor-director skillfully deflected a barrage of questions from reporters about a potential Clooney candidacy, after appearing at an event where Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed legislation aimed at helping stop genocidal violence in the Darfur region of Sudan.

Told that fans are clamoring for the “Syriana” star to run for office, Clooney said with a subtle head shake, “Believe me, you don’t want me in politics.”

You’re right, George. I don’t want you in politics. I let ol’ Arnold slide because he married into a political family, but part of me still wonders how many people voted for ‘Arnold the Movie Star’ rather than ‘Arnold the Politician’. The sad truth of the matter is that movie and television stars have a huge influence on society that can easily lead people away from good common sense. In George Clooney’s case, I’d hate to think that his wet-panty-inducing-good-looks had anything to do with him winning any elections. But that’s EXACTLY why he would win.

And Oprah? Don’t give up your day job either. I admire you for some of the things you’ve done, but your influence over the unwashed masses is scary…at least you realize it.

Bitacle Update

It seems that Bitacle has made a slight change in the way they do things, due to the recent brouhaha. Instead of stealing an entire post, they’re just using excerpts. This is ‘better’, but the whole debacle has left a bad taste in my mouth. Slimy fuckers.

Having said that, if you use Wordpress for your blogging platform, I’d like to point you to a sweet little plug-in that will insert YOUR copyright information at the bottom of each post in your RSS feed. The plug-in is located here.

All Your Blogs Are Belong to Bitacle

Further info and a fix can be found here. If you host your own site, I strongly suggest that you read and follow the instructions to prevent the Bitacle bot from spidering your site. If you use a free blog host, such as Blogger or Typepad, I strongly suggest you send off an email to the tech support department demanding they block the Bitacle spiders from their servers.

To the few people that I am hosting, we’re protected as of 20 mins ago.

UPDATE: Here is the WHOIS info I found for the domain. I’m thinking Mr. Glez is about to become a very unpopular person:

Bullshit

I’ll probably end up eating the words I’m about to type, but I smell a big ol’ pile of bullshit in this story:

Police are looking for 8-day-old Abigale Lynn Woods after a woman allegedly stabbed the infant’s mother and slashed her throat before taking the child from her rural Missouri home, investigators said Saturday.

A statewide Amber Alert has been issued.

The mother, Stephanie Ochsenbine, 21, told police the woman knocked on her door Friday, asking to use the phone, then attacked her. Ochsenbine was in serious condition after undergoing surgery Friday.

There are a few things with this story that don’t sit right with me. First up, the mother is 21, (presumably) unmarried and has two children. Certainly not a crime, but it sort of carries some negative connotations in MY mind.

More disturbing than that, however, is this quote from the article:

The Amber Alert says the suspect was armed with an “unknown [type of]handgun and fillet knife.”

Okay, so this kidnapper brought a gun AND a knife, but only used the knife? Sorry, I don’t buy it. I’ve cast a weathered eye on these kinds of things ever since I got sucked in by that wench Susan Smith 10 years ago, but this whole story just STINKS of bullshit.

UPDATE: Well, slap my ass and call me Fanny…I totally called THAT one wrong. The baby has been found and is home safe with her family.

On a related note…I wonder if we’ll get a real mugshot of the woman who stole the baby. She reportedly has a female moustache and, much like this guy, the strange and unusual draws me like a moth to a flame.

Godspeed Atlantis!

Atlantis Launch 090906

From NASA:

Space Shuttle Atlantis lifted off from Kennedy Space Center and charged into the midday Florida sky on a mission to boost power on the International Space Station. The launch was on time, with liftoff at 11:15 a.m. EDT. Over the 11-day mission, the six-member crew will perform three spacewalks to install the P3/P4 integrated truss and solar arrays on the station, doubling the current power generating capability of the orbiting outpost.

NASA TV will carry a post-launch news conference at around 12PM EST and will hopefully have more information on the technical glitch Atlantis had just before it reached orbit.

Quiet on the Homefront

Finally. A little peace and quiet. Court on Monday went well. The judge allowed me to be placed on the pseudo-nephews’ treatment team and ordered many hoops for the pseudo-family to jump through before he will even consider allowing them any access to the boys. I don’t expect this to last long…I’m sure the family will appeal if pseudo-brother happens to avoid jail time. There was no drama to be found though…I had arrived just seconds before we were called into the courtroom and the judge had the pseudo-family escorted out of the building right after the hearing. The bad news is that it’s entirely possible that bringing the boys home will be a non-issue. The initial reports from the treatment coordinator aren’t promising at all but it’s too soon to tell one way or another.

Breakfast with TheEx was…difficult, to say the least. Hashing out the child support and insurance issues were easy…it’s hashing out our relationship that got to me. Why I still have to deal with this TEN friggin years after the fact, I don’t understand. After we ate and paid the bill, we went for a walk because I had time to kill before court and I found myself having to explain for the umpteenth time why I can’t forgive infidelity. We didn’t fight or anything…it was just an emotional discussion I guess. A discussion that, truthfully, should be dead and buried by now.

If It Looks Like a Monday…

and walks like a Monday…then it might as well be a friggin Monday.

Big court day today. Fun fun! I expect lots o’ drama and all that good stuff.

But before court, I get to go have a ‘working breakfast’ with TheEx. You see, it’s time to go to the ole bargaining table. TheEx wants to quit his job. Knowing the company as well as I do, I can’t blame him…BUT there’s the issue of child support and insurance to hash out.

This has all the makings of a very bad day.
